The Foundation for Dane Parks had the honor of helping dedicate the new accessible fishing pier at Salmo Pond County Park on Black Earth Creek in memory of our colleague Dan Wisniewski.
Several elements of Dan's life and service to this County converged on this beautiful September Day.
First was his love of fishing particularly trout and fly fishing . This area is perfect location as this Creek and its bounty were one of Dan's favorites. Dan was the leader on the Parks Commission of promoting stream bank easements and the importance of trout fishing to the Dane County Parks diverse recreational opportunities. Dane County has some of the best Trout Fishing areas in southern Wisconsin.
Second is the fact that this pier is accessible. Accessible piers are one of the cornerstones of the work of the Foundation for Dane County Parks. Dan was a champion of the foundation's work and one of its co-founders. This pier is the first accessible pier of this type spearheaded by the Foundation in collaboration with great support of Dane County Parks staff and other community organizations including Accessibility Wisconsin and Madison Fishing Expo. It will soon be followed by two other accessible piers, one at Fish Camp County Park and the other at Babcock County Park.
We publicly recognize and memorialize Dan Wisniewski's work for the broader environment and Dane County community with this permanent plaque. So to Dan and his family, we thank you for all you have done to support the natural resources in Dane County and throughout Wisconsin.
